Scholarship & Financial Aid
We aspire to make our transformational MHCDS education accessible to as many talented health care professionals as possible.
Scholarship Opportunities
Generous alumni, institutional investment, and philanthropic partners have made scholarship consideration available to every admitted student who wishes to pursue it. Director's Scholarships are awarded to those who have demonstrated financial need and/or merit through the scholarship application process. In addition, limited Special Scholarship Programs supported by the Dean are available to those whose work principally focuses on underserved populations. More information on these special scholarship initiatives can be viewed further down this page.

Scholarship Application Process
Within your MHCDS application, you may indicate your intent to pursue scholarship aid. If you've chosen to apply for scholarship aid and are admitted to the program, you will promptly receive an electronic scholarship application. This application will require simple household financial information and a short writing prompt to help the scholarship committee assess an applicant's financial need and/or merit. Decision awards are made and communicated typically within 10 business days.
Financial Aid
Federal Loans
Following admission and the scholarship process, students may pursue federal financial aid (loans). U.S. Citizens and permanent residents are eligible for federal loans. We recommend that admitted students take the following steps to begin the loan process:
- File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Complete and submit the Graduate Student Financial Aid Application via email to financial.aid@dartmouth.edu
- Contact the Dartmouth College Financial Aid Office via phone or email
Private Loans
Student loans from private lenders are available to finance some or all of your educational costs.
- Explore options from Dartmouth’s Lender List and apply with your chosen lender. Once approved, the lender will notify us to certify your loan amount. The amount you can borrow is limited to the Total Cost of Attendance, less any other aid awarded.
- Complete the Dartmouth Graduate Financial Aid Application if not already submitted.
Post-9/11 GI Bill® and Yellow Ribbon Program
The Post-9/11 GI Bill provides financial support for education to individuals with at least 90 days of aggregate service on or after September 11, 2001, or individuals discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days. You must have received an honorable discharge to be eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill. The percent of eligibility is service related.
Some changes were made to the bill through the Post-9/11 Veterans Education Assistance Improvement Act of 2010 and more recently through the Harry W. Colmery Veteran’s Educational Assistance Act of the 2017 also known as the Forever GI Bill. The Yellow Ribbon Program (YRP) is a provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008. The program allows institutions to enter into a voluntary agreement with the VA to fund tuition and fee expenses that exceed the 2026-27 VA cap of $30,908.34 at private institutions for individuals eligible for the 100 percent payment tier. The institution can contribute up to 50 percent of those expenses and VA will match the same amount as the institution. MHCDS participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program (YRP) without limitation on the number of veterans enrolled and at the full 50 percent funding level. We are proud to support our veterans.
GI Bill® is a registered trademark of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). More information about education benefits offered by VA is available at the official U.S. government website at www.benefits.va.gov/gibill.
International Students
MHCDS offers funding options for international citizens attending our program. The loans do not require a U.S. co-borrower and offer very competitive terms. The maximum borrowing limit for students in the MHCDS program is $70,000. Limits are based on a needs analysis performed by the Financial Aid Office using the information provided by the student and may vary by individual. International students can borrow funds to cover their qualified educational expenses for the duration of the program, subject to the program’s criteria.
Our goal in providing the programs is to supplement the student’s other financial resources. International students should also investigate all sources of funding from within their home country including government and private scholarships and loans. International students may also be eligible for other types of loans if they have a U.S. cosigner with positive credit history. Please contact George Newcomb, Director of Admissions, for details on how International Students can apply for financial aid.
